2023
This mini project was taken across two different locations during a trip to London. The idea behind the shoot was to engage with the area, people, and develop a sense of place within the work.
Barbican
According to the City of London Corporation, The Barbican Estate started development in 1965 and was developed on land that was destroyed during the blitz. The development took 11 years to fully complete. The complex of different buildings that make the Estate up were designed by the architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. The building is also Grade II- listed as of September 2001.
Brick Lane
Brick Lane in essence is a culturally diverse part of London. The diversity however, unlike most places is an amalgamation of hundreds of years of migration and refugees. From 1660 – present day the diversity of the area is more than apparent. In the mid 1600s large communities of protestant Huguenot refugees fled from France to the area. However, large-scale development didn’t start until the second half of the 17th century. This is when the area started to take the shape it still is today with many of the roads leading into central London staying the same to the present day.
