Mundane Photography

Carl Tashian 2019 said (Tashian)”there are billions of cameras on the planet. Having a camera is no longer a luxury for most people. True luxury is the ability to see.”

This quote is a strong explanation of mundane and everyday photography due to the ways that most people can take a photo. However, it’s another thing to actually be able to shoot a well-formed image with a narrative and substance. The idea of photography being a luxury has also changed because of the easy access to smart camera phones. This in itself is a stepping stone to the wonder world of photography, but without the formal training and experience that comes with it, images are rarely formed the first time.

(Tashian) “Mundane photography has little to do with the image produced and everything to do with the mindset and experience of the photographer before and during the moment of capture. Photography is an opportunity to zoom in and to choose a square inch of reality to focus on.”

Images are only seen from the perspective of a person’s past experiences. And the pre-perceived views are carried through into photographic work. The only way that the work can be seen in the way that is intended is if the personal opinions of the viewer are left behind. The idea of mundane photography is that the image is not just an image of the subject. It’s to do with the ideas and mindset inside the photographic world.
