Felicity McCabe : Dryland

Save the Children : Dryland

The visual language inside the work is extremely powerful and makes you feel involved with the process of image production. The work is produced in this manner because of the subjects that are a part of the project, but not just this, also the way that the work has been presented in pairs or trios. The style of images is plain and uses some either fill flash or reflectors. This works for the most part, but it has also caused me some visual distraction when looking at the images. With the selection of images, there is a wide range of different images that all build upon the project. The way that the images are presented in pairs is the best style because of their ability to push the subject matter out of the image and cause it to become involved within the images themselves. To add to this, the style of the images that have been paired shows a level of understanding and development from the moment of shooting. This is shown by the extreme framing of the images, giving them space to breathe; the whole image has low distractions around the frame. This allows them to work alone or in a similar style together.

Felicity McCabe’s artist statement at the end of this project is simple and explanatory. It shows a level of confidence in the work due to the limited explanation of the work inside the statement. The statement itself has a location with a small level of detail about it. The next part shows an explanation of people’s lives and the effects that climate change has had on the areas where they live.
